Job Description

HSAG Overview

Since its beginning in 1979, Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG) has advanced to become a multi-state Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO), External Quality Review Organization (EQRO), End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network contractor, and Measure Instrument Development and Support (MIDS) contractor to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). HSAG serves approximately:

  • 25 percent of the nation’s Medicare population.
  • 45 percent of the nation’s Medicaid population.
  • 19 percent of the nation’s population receiving dialysis services.
  • 1,647 inpatient psychiatric facilities.
  • 3,261 acute care inpatient hospitals.
  • 3,500 hospital outpatient departments.
  • 5,400 ambulatory surgical centers.

Job Requirements

Internship Program Overview

This opportunity is available to Master’s-level students immediately post-graduation or during the last semester prior to graduation. The one-semester internship is paid, and each intern will acquire competencies in at least one of the following core areas:

  • Quality measure development or expertise in psychometrics
  • Quality payment programs
  • Quality improvement
  • Inpatient psychiatric facilities and treatment for those with severe mental health conditions

Interns will be oriented to the core competencies. Once assigned to an HSAG project, each intern will:

  • Be assigned an HSAG mentor to serve as a day-to-day point of contact.
  • Meet with the project team and begin participating in all project team meetings.
  • Perform assignments and prepare work products that contribute to the overall project.

Examples of assignments include but are not limited to the following:

  • Understanding the technical specifications of quality measures in the Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting Program
  • Creating and adhering to project timelines
  • Drafting high-profile reports for CMS
  • Drafting public-facing documents, both technical and non-technical
  • Comprehending and reviewing SAS code, classification tables, and output tables
  • Monitoring and responding to web-based system for questions from stakeholders
  • Coordinating information gathering within team and from external experts
  • Identifying and summarizing legislation and federal rules
  • Developing educational materials
  • Track status of deliverables and deadlines
